Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If DTC P1408 is set, go to next step. If DTC P1408 is not set, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  2. Backprobing, measure voltage between PCM 26-pin connector C51-3 terminal No. 8 (Red/White wire) and No. 22 (Blue/Red wire). Turn ignition on and note voltage. Start engine and allow it to idle. Note voltage. With ignition on, voltage should be .2 volt or more. With engine at idle, voltage should be 4.6 volts or less. If readings are as specified, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. If intermittent problem is not found, replace PCM and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If readings are not as specified, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect MAP sensor connector. Check for poor terminal contact at MAP sensor connector. If poor terminal contact is found, repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If terminal contact is okay, check MAP sensor operation. See MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR under ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If MAP sensor operation is okay, go to next step.
  4. Check for open or short in Red/White, Blue/Red or White/Red wires between MAP sensor and PCM 26-pin connector C51-3. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary. If wires are okay, replace PCM and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
