Torque Converter: Installation

NOTE: DO NOT flush the torque converter before installation. Only drain as much fluid as possible.
  1. Install the torque converter to the input shaft, being careful not to damage the oil pump body fluid seal.
  2. Measure the distance between the outer edge of the transmission case housing and the torque converter flange nut:
    1. Place a straightedge across the housing. See Fig 1 .
    2. Using the vernier calipers, measure torque converter depth. See TORQUE CONVERTER INSTALLED DEPTH SPECIFICATIONS  table.
    3. If the distance is not within the specification, remove and reinstall.
  3. Inspect the torque converter for smooth rotation.
  4. Apply grease to the converter pilot cup.
