Cleaning & Inspection Procedure
NOTE:
Adhere to the following general precautions when inspecting the transmission case and the case components:
- Work in a clean area and with clean tools.
- DO NOT use wipe cloths or rags.
- DO NOT use solvents on the following components:
- Rubber seals.
- Plastic or Teflon(R) thrust washers or spacers.
- Blow out all fluid passages using compressed air.
- Clean out all small passages using a fine wire
- Carefully handle all small parts.
- Clean all parts and allow to air dry before assembly.
- Clean the case components using a solvent. Allow the components to air dry. Inspect the case for porosity.
- Inspect the case to valve body surfaces for damage. Inspect the vent for damage. Inspect all fluid passages using compressed air.
- Inspect the case bores for the following conditions:
- General damage.
- Porosity.
- Burrs.
- Sharp edges (Remove using a fine emery cloth).
- Inspect the bolt holes for thread damage. Inspect the case interior for the following conditions:
- Damaged ring grooves.
- Casting flash.
- Worn or damaged clutch plate lugs.
- Inspect the case exterior for scarred or damaged gasket mating surfaces.
