Transmission Range Switch Circuit Check (A/T)

NOTE: Transmission Range (TR) switch may also be referred to as Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch or shift switch.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect CC ECU harness connector. Using DVOM, check for continuity between ground and CC ECU harness connector terminal No. 9 (Black/Red wire). See Figure . With shift lever in Park or Neutral position, continuity should exist. With shift lever in any forward/reverse gear, continuity should not exist. If continuity is as specified, circuit is okay. If continuity is not as specified, go to next step.
  2. Check for poor connection, open or short in Black/Red wire between Transmission Range (TR) switch and CC ECU. Check for poor connection, open or short in Black/Yellow wire between TR switch and starter. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If wiring and harness connectors are okay, replace or adjust TR switch as necessary. See TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH (A/T)  under ADJUSTMENTS.
