Test Procedure

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Raise and support vehicle. Connect Tech 1 scan tool with ABS/Air Bag cartridge to DLC. Turn ignition on. Place transaxle in Neutral position. Select channel to test; left front, right front or rear.
  2. Firmly depress brake pedal. Pedal should remain high and firm. Have an assistant attempt to rotate wheel being tested. If wheel does not rotate, base brake apply is functioning properly. If rear channel is being tested, neither rear wheel should rotate because pressure at both rear wheels is controlled together.
  3. With brake pedal still depressed, press UP arrow key on scan tool to begin test. Scan tool will display RELEASE. Assistant should be able to rotate wheel being tested for about 2 seconds. This verifies ABS pressure release function. Brake pedal should remain high and firm. If brake pedal height drops, ensure solenoid harness connectors are connected to correct solenoid.
  4. Scan tool will switch to hold mode and display HOLD. With brake pedal still depressed, have an assistant attempt to rotate wheel. Wheel should rotate with little or no resistance for the full 18 seconds of the test. This verifies ABS pressure hold function. After 18 seconds, brake pressure will be applied, and a slight bump may be felt in brake pedal. Wheel should not be able to be turned at this point. This verifies ABS apply function.
