Ignition Switch & Column Lock: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Ensure front wheels are in a straight-ahead position. Disable air bag restraint system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
- Remove driver-side air bag inflator module bolts from each side of steering column. Release Yellow air bag module connector lock. Disconnect Yellow wiring harness connector and remove air bag module.
- Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL . Remove steering column upper and lower covers.
- Turn ignition switch to ACC or ON position. Remove steering column shift interlock cable assembly from steering column (if equipped).
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove steering column. See STEERING COLUMN . Using suitable stud remover, remove shear bolts from steering column lock assembly. See Fig 1. DO NOT damage aluminum part of steering lock/ignition switch body.
WARNING:
DO NOT allow steering column or contact coil to rotate while steering lock is removed from steering column.
