Description & Operation

WARNING: Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.

Steering column switches include multifunction switch, horn switches and ignition switch. Multifunction switch includes: headlight switch, dimmer switch, turn signal switch and windshield wiper/washer switch. Multifunction switch is mounted with contact coil behind steering wheel. Headlight and turn signal functions are controlled by stalk lever on left side of steering column. Wiper/washer functions are controlled by lever on right side of steering column. Hazard warning switch is located in center console of instrument panel (except Swift) or on top of steering column (Swift). On models with automatic transmission, shift interlock system may also be incorporated with ignition switch. Shift interlock system prevents shifter to engage into any drive gear without brake pedal being depressed.
