Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If DTC P0450 is set, go to next step. If DTC P0450 is not set, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  2. If not using scan tool, go to next step. If using scan tool, turn ignition off. Connect scan tool. Open fuel filler cap and turn ignition on. Scan tool should display FUEL TANK PRESSURE of 0 in. Hg. If reading is not to specification, go to step  4 . If reading is to specification, go to step  5 .
  3. Open fuel filler cap and turn ignition on. Backprobing, measure voltage between ground and ECM 26-pin connector E91 terminal No. 20 (Red/Yellow wire). See Figure . If about 2-3 volts are not present, go to next step. If about 2-3 volts are present, go to step  5 .
  4. Check FTP sensor. See FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR under FUEL EVAPORATION in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If FTP sensor is okay, check for short or open in circuits between FTP sensor and ECM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If circuits are okay, check for poor terminal contact at ECM 26-pin connector E91, ECM 28-pin connector C20 and FTP sensor connector. If poor terminal contacts are found, repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If terminal contacts are okay, replace ECM and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  .
  5. Check EVAP canister, EVAP canister air filter, EVAP canister air filter passage, and fuel vapor passage between fuel tank and EVAP canister for plugging. Repair as necessary. If components are okay, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. If intermittent problem is not found, replace ECM and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  .
