Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If DTC P0113 is set, go to next step. If DTC P0113 is not set, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select IAT parameter. If display reads -40°F (-40°C), go to next step. If display does not read -40°F (-40°C), problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect IAT sensor connector. Check for poor terminal contact at IAT sensor connector. If poor terminal contact is found, repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If terminal contact is okay, turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and IAT sensor harness connector Gray/Red wire terminal. Reading should be 4-6 volts. Go to next step.
  4. If reading is as specified, go to step  6 . If reading is not as specified, turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 28-pin connector C20. Check for poor terminal contact at ECM 28-pin connector C20. If poor terminal contact is found, repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If terminal contact is okay, check for open or short to power in Gray/Red wire between IAT and ECM 28-pin connector C20 terminal No. 16. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. See Figure . Go to next step.
  5. Repair wire as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If wiring is okay, replace ECM and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  .
  6. Using a fused jumper wire, jumper terminals at IAT sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select IAT parameter. If display on scan tool reads 401°F (205°F), replace IAT sensor and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If display does not read 401°F (205°F), turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 28-pin connector C20. Check for poor terminal contact at ECM 28-pin connector C20. Go to next step.
  7. If poor terminal contact is found, repair as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If terminal contact is okay, check for open in Orange wire between IAT and ECM 28-pin connector C20 terminal No. 27. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. See Figure . Repair wire as necessary and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  . If wiring is okay, replace ECM and go to DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  .
