DTC Confirmation Test

  1. Turn ignition off, connect scan tool and turn ignition on. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Ensure fuel tank is at least 1/4 full, vehicle is at an altitude of 8000 feet or below, barometric pressure is 75 kPa or more, ambient temperature is 14°F (-10°C) or more, and intake air temperature is 158°F (70°C) or less. Start engine an allow it to reach 158-230°F (70-110°C). Go to next step.
  2. Allow engine to run for 5 minutes. Drive vehicle at speeds of about 50-55 MPH in 5th gear (M/T) or Drive (A/T) for 2 minutes or more. Shift to 3rd gear (M/T) or 2nd (A/T) and rase engine speed to 4000 RPM. Release accelerator pedal, keep vehicle coasting until engine speed reaches 1500 RPM. Stop vehicle. With ignition on, check for DTC P0400. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Go to next step.
  3. If DTC is not set, using scan tool, check completion status of EGR monitoring test in READINESS TESTS mode. If testing has not been completed, repeat DTC confirmation test. If testing has been completed, check for DTC P0400. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
