Test B: 4WD Does Not Engage
NOTE:
4WD does not engage. All other engine and transmission functions are normal.
- Review transfer case circuit description and perform necessary inspections. If system review and inspection is complete, go to next step. If system review and inspection is not complete, see TRANSFER CASE CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION under OPERATION.
- Start engine. Place transfer case in 4WD and test vehicle operation. If 4WD system operates normally, check circuit for poor connections and intermittent conditions. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If 4WD system does not operate normally, go to next step.
- If 4WD indicator illuminates, go to step 7 . If 4WD indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Check 4WD switch ground circuit (Black wire) for an open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 10 . If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Check 4WD switch signal circuit (Black/Orange wire) for an open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 10 . If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Replace 4WD switch. See Figure . After repairs, go to step 10 .
- Check front drive axle actuator pump ground circuit (Black wire) for an open. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 10 . If circuit is okay, go to next step.
- Check front drive axle actuator pump control circuits (Red and Pink wires) for an open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 10 . If circuits are okay, go to next step.
- Replace front drive axle actuator pump. After repairs, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repairs. If problem has been corrected, system is okay. If problem has not been corrected, go to step 3 .
