Test A: 4WD Does Not Disengage

NOTE: 4WD always engaged. All other engine and transmission functions are normal.
  1. Review transfer case circuit description and perform necessary inspections. If system review and inspection is complete, go to next step. If system review and inspection is not complete, see TRANSFER CASE CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION  under OPERATION.
  2. Start engine. Place transfer case in 2WD and test vehicle operation. If 4WD system disengages, check circuit for poor connections and intermittent conditions. If 4WD system does not disengage, go to next step.
  3. If 4WD indicator is on, go to next step. If 4WD indicator is not on, go to step  7 .
  4. Check 4WD switch signal circuit (Black/Orange wire) for short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  9 . If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  5. With transfer case in 2WD, test 4WD switch for continuity. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, go to step  7 .
  6. Replace 4WD switch. See Fig 1 . After repairs, go to step  9 .
  7. Check axle actuator control circuits (Red and Pink wires) for short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  9 . If circuits are okay, go to next step.
  8. Replace front drive axle actuator pump. After repairs, go to next step.
  9. Operate system to verify repairs. If problem has been corrected, system is okay. If problem has not been corrected, go to step  3 .
