Transfer Case Diagnosis & Overhaul: Description
Aluminum transfer case is directly connected to back of transmission. Transfer case consists of an input gear, countershaft and counter gear, rear output shaft, low output gear, and front output shaft (for front drive). Front output shaft is driven by a drive chain connected to rear output shaft. A synchronizer on front drive clutch makes it possible to change between 2H and 4H when the vehicle is moving at any speed less than 60 MPH. Front drive shift fork is spring loaded to ensure smooth shifts from 4H to 2H. An oil gutter and a plate are used to ensure synchronizer lubrication.
