DTC C1258: 4WD Switch Circuit Fault (4WD Models)
- Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Disconnect ABS actuator assembly harness connector. Place transfer case shift lever in 2H position. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 5 (White wire) on actuator harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 3
.
- Place transfer case shift lever in 4H position. Ensure ignition is on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 5 (White wire) on actuator harness connector. If voltage is less than 2 volts, replace ABS actuator assembly and retest. If voltage is 2 volts or greater, go to step 10
.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect ECM harness connectors. ECM is located under glove compartment. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 5 (White wire) on actuator harness connector. If battery voltage is present, go to step 8
. If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove combination meter from instrument panel. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Disconnect combination meter 16-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 14 (Black/White wire). See Figure
. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open Black/White wire.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check continuity between following component harness connector terminals:
- Terminal No. 5 on actuator harness connector and terminal No. 1 on combination meter 16-pin harness connector.
- Terminal No. 5 on actuator harness connector and terminal No. 19 on ECM E61 harness connector. See Figure
.
- Terminal No. 1 on combination meter 16-pin harness connector and terminal No. 19 on ECM E61 harness connector.
If continuity is present on all circuits, go to next step. If continuity is not present on any circuit, inspect and repair open circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 5 (Orange/Black wire) on ABS actuator harness connector. If continuity exists, repair Orange/Black wire for short to ground. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Remove and inspect 4WD indicator light bulb. Replace as needed. If bulb is okay, replace combination meter circuit board.
- Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Place transfer case shift lever in 2H position. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 18 (Black/Orange wire) on ECM C51-2 harness connector. See Figure
. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace 4WD switch.
- Disconnect 4WD switch harness connector. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 18 (Black/Orange wire) on ECM C51-2 harness connector. If continuity does not exist, go to step 12
. If continuity exists, repair Black/Orange wire for short to ground.
- Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Place transfer case shift lever in 4H position. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 18 (Black/Orange wire) on ECM C51-2 harness connector. See Figure
. If continuity does not exist, repair open Black/Orange wire. If continuity exists, replace ECM and retest.
- Disconnect 4WD switch harness connector. Check continuity of Black/Orange wire between terminal No. 1 on 4WD switch harness connector and terminal No. 18 (Black/Orange wire) on ECM C51-2 harness connector. If continuity does not exist, repair open Black/Orange wire. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 2 (Black wire) on 4WD switch harness connector. If continuity exists, replace 4WD switch and retest. If continuity does not exist, repair open Black wire.
