Raise and support vehicle. Turn ignition on and rotate right rear wheel with left rear wheel blocked. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between PCM connector C51-2, terminal No. 1 and ground. See Fig 1 . DVOM should indicate a voltage deflection of 0-1 volt and 8-14 volts while rotating wheel. If voltage is not as specified, replace VSS. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
