Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article in GENERAL SERVICING. Remove console glove box. Remove glove box and steering column access hole cover. Disconnect wiring harness connectors and control cables from heater case and blower case.
  2. Disconnect steering column harness connectors. Remove steering column coupler (in engine compartment) and toe plate at floor. Remove steering column-to-instrument panel bolts. Disconnect shift interlock cable (if equipped). Remove steering column.
  3. Disconnect speedometer cable and remove speedometer assembly (instrument cluster). Disconnect wiring harness from air bag Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) and air bag ground terminal. Remove hood opener (hood release handle). Disconnect instrument panel wiring harness(es). Remove instrument panel mounting bolts. Remove instrument panel. To install, reverse removal procedure.
