System Operation Check

  1. Turn ignition on. AIR BAG warning light should come on for about 7 seconds and then go off, indicating SRS is okay. If AIR BAG warning light does not come on, service Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). If AIR BAG warning light stays on constantly, service SRS. If AIR BAG warning light comes on for about 7 seconds, then starts flashing, a fault code is set in memory.
  2. On vehicles equipped with seat belt pretensioners, the SEAT BELT warning light and chime should also come on when ignition is turned on. SEAT BELT warning light and chime should stay on for about 7 seconds and then go off after seat belt is fastened. When the seat belt has not been fastened, the warning light will stay on until seat belt is fastened. If SEAT BELT warning light comes on for about 7 seconds, then starts flashing, a fault code is set in memory.
