Esteem (1.6L)

  1. Ensure no DTCs exist. See appropriate SELF DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If any DTCs exist, repair as necessary. If no DTCs exist, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, backprobe between ground and PCM harness connector C21, terminal No. 6 (Orange wire) while opening and closing throttle. See Figure . If voltage does not vary with opening and closing of throttle, go to next step. If voltage does vary with opening and closing of throttle, circuit is okay.
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. Using jumper wire, connect Gray wire terminal at main relay to ground. Main relay is located in underhood relay, next to battery. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and PCM harness connector E92, terminal No. 10. If 10-14 volts exists, go to next step. If 10-14 volts does not exist, go to step  5 .
  4. Check Throttle Position (TP) sensor and circuits. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If TP sensor and circuits are okay, replace PCM and retest.
  5. Check Gray wire between PCM and CC ECU for open or short. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, check CC ECU power and ground circuits. See CRUISE CONTROL MODULE POWER & GROUND CIRCUIT CHECKS  .
