Steering Knuckle: Installation

  1. Install knuckle to strut. Align strut projection with knuckle slit. See Figure. Install knuckle-to-strut pinch bolt, but DO NOT tighten. Align knuckle with lower control arm and install bolt.

  2. Tighten knuckle-to-strut pinch bolt. Tighten lower control arm-to-knuckle bolt. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Apply sealant to mating surfaces of brake backing plate and knuckle. Install and tighten brake backing plate bolts.
  3. Install brakeline to wheel cylinder and to steering knuckle bracket. Install control rod, but DO NOT tighten bolts/nuts. Install brake drum assembly. Install NEW spindle nut, and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Stake spindle nut.
  4. Install wheel. Lower vehicle to normal riding height. Tighten control rod fasteners to specification. Bleed and adjust brakes. See appropriate DISC & DRUM article in BRAKES. To complete installation, check rear toe-in. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
