Coil Spring & Lower Control Arm: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle, allowing rear suspension to hang free. Remove rear wheel. Scribe location marks on mounting bracket and toe-in adjustment cam for installation reference.
  2. Remove control rod from knuckle rear stud. Loosen, but DO NOT remove, control arm pivot bolts at body side of lower control arm. See Fig 2.
  3. Loosen, but DO NOT remove, control arm-to-knuckle bolt. Disconnect ABS wheel speed sensor connector and remove harness from lower control arm. Place floor jack under lower control arm. Lift control arm enough to remove control arm-to-knuckle bolt.
  4. Pull outward on brake drum/backing plate assembly to separate knuckle from control arm. Slowly lower jack, and remove coil spring. See Fig 2. Remove stabilizer link from control arm. Remove control arm front bushing bracket bolts and rear control arm bolt. Remove control arm.
