Disabling & Activating Air Bag System
WARNING:
To avoid accidental air bag deployment and possible personal injury, be sure to wait at least 90 seconds, after disabling SIR system, before beginning work on system.
- Straighten vehicle"s front wheels and turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove key from ignition switch.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove AIR BAG fuse from AIR BAG fuse box. See Fig 1 .
- Remove steering wheel side cap. Disengage Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip and disconnect driver-side air bag module.
- Pull top of glove box outward while depressing stops. Allow glove box to fall toward passenger seat. Disengage CPA clip and disconnect Yellow connector for passenger-side air bag module.
- To activate SIR system, turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key. Reverse disabling procedure. Turn ignition switch to ON position and verify that AIR BAG warning light flashes 7 times and turns off. If AIR BAG warning light does not function properly, perform SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
