Diagnostic Procedure
- Before continuing diagnosis, ensure battery voltage is 10-14 volts. Repair charging system as necessary. Turn ignition switch to ON position and observe AIR BAG warning light. If AIR BAG warning light flashes 7 times then turns off, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light does not turn on, go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON . If AIR BAG warning light comes on steady, go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON STEADY . If AIR BAG warning keeps flashing after flashing 7 times, go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT KEEPS FLASHING .
- Using either scan tool or onboard diagnostics method of DTC retrieval, check for SIR DTCs. If NO CODES or DTC 12 is retrieved, SIR system is operating normal at this time. If NO DATA RECEIVED is displayed, go to SDM CANNOT COMMUNICATE THROUGH SERIAL DATA CIRCUIT . If a scan tool is not used to retrieve DTCs and AIR BAG warning light comes on steady after flashing 7 times, go to AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CANNOT INDICATE DTC BY FLASHING . If a history DTC (scan tool only) is retrieved, an intermittent condition exists. Check wiring harness and connectors for poor connection. Go to next step.
- Record DTCs and turn ignition switch to OFF position. If DTC 51, 53, 19, 25 or 71 was retrieved, perform diagnostic procedure for each DTC in order listed previously. Perform diagnostic procedures for all others DTCs in order from lowest to highest number. Clear DTCs and repeat this procedure until no DTCs are retrieved.
