Diagnostic Procedure

  1. If SIR Diagnostic System Check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR Diagnostic System Check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect driver and passenger-side air bag connectors located behind steering wheel side cap and behind glove box. See Figure . Disconnect SDM connector. See Figure . Disconnect forward discriminating sensor connector. See Figure . Measure resistance between forward discriminating sensor connector terminals. If resistance is 8.5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 8.5 ohms, replace forward discriminating sensor. See FORWARD DISCRIMINATING SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step  4 .
  3. Measure resistance between SDM connector terminal No. 2 and ground. See Figure & Figure . If resistance is infinite, go to SDM INTEGRITY CHECK  . If resistance is less than infinite, a short between Gray and Gray-Black wires or ground exists. Replace wiring harness. Go to next step.
  4. Reconnect all SIR system components. Using scan tool, clear all SIR DTCs. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
