Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Test drive vehicle. Using scan tool, select DATA LIST. While decelerating from 35 MPH to zero, monitor all wheel speeds. If any wheel speed is erratic or intermittent, go DTC 21-24 (as applicable). See ABS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table. If wheel speeds appear acceptable, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Raise and support rear of vehicle. Ensure both rear wheels can be spun freely by hand. If either rear wheel does not spin freely, inspect and repair cause of resistance. If both rear wheels can be spun freely, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select ABS TESTS. Select MANUAL CONTROL function. Select REAR MOTOR APPLY function. Apply firm pressure on brake pedal and use scan tool to command rear motor to apply. If an assistant can not turn both rear wheels freely while rear motor is commanded to apply, system is currently functioning correctly. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  . If an assistant can turn both rear wheels freely while rear motor is commanded to apply, go to next step.
  4. With firm pressure still applied to brake pedal, use scan tool to command release of rear motor. If an assistant can not turn both rear wheels freely while rear motor is commanded to release, repair crossed wires at rear motor circuit. If an assistant can turn both rear wheels freely while rear motor is commanded to release, go to next step.
  5. Using scan tool, select ABS TESTS and perform GEAR TENSION RELIEF function. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Separate motor pack from hydraulic modulator. See ABS ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (HYDRAULIC MODULATOR/MOTOR PACK)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect motor pack wiring. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, perform motor test. If all 3 motor pack gears (small gears) spin freely, replace hydraulic modulator. If all 3 motor pack gears (small gears) do not spin freely, replace motor pack. After all diagnosis is complete, clear DTC and test drive vehicle for 3 drive cycles to verify that DTC does not reset. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  .
