Swift (A/T)

  1. Remove Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). Visually inspect VSS and counter shaft gear for damage, foreign objects attached and for correct installation. Repair as necessary. If VSS and countershaft gear are okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect VSS harness connector at transmission. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between VSS connector terminals. See Figure . Resistance should be 100-300 ohms at 68°F (20°C). Replace VSS if resistance is not as specified. If resistance is as specified, go to next step.
  3. Install VSS, leaving VSS harness connector disconnected. Raise and support vehicle. Using analog voltmeter, connect leads to VSS terminals. Start engine. Place gearshift lever in "D" position. Operate vehicle at 40 MPH. VSS output voltage should be about one volt. If output voltage is not as specified, replace VSS.
