Disabling & Activating Air Bag System

WARNING: To avoid accidental air bag deployment and possible personal injury, be sure to wait at least 90 seconds, after disabling SIR system, before beginning work on system.
  1. Straighten vehicle"s front wheels and turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove key from ignition switch.
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove AIR BAG fuse from AIR BAG fuse box. See Fig 1 .
  3. Remove steering wheel side cap. Disengage Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip and disconnect driver-side air bag module.
  4. Pull top of glove box outward while depressing stops. Allow glove box to fall toward passenger seat. Disengage CPA clip and disconnect Yellow connector for passenger-side air bag module.
  5. To activate SIR system, turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove key. Reverse disabling procedure. Turn ignition switch to ON position and verify that AIR BAG warning light flashes 7 times and turns off. If AIR BAG warning light does not function properly, perform SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
