Disabling Air Bag System (MR2)
WARNING:
The MR2 is equipped with a passenger air bag ON/OFF switch. This switch should NOT be used in place of specified vehicle air bag system disabling and activating procedures.
- Obtain radio anti-theft protection code from owner prior to servicing vehicle or deactivate radio anti-theft function before disconnecting vehicle battery.
- Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect and shield negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 SECONDS before working on vehicle.
- Remove steering column lower cover. See Figure. Disconnect driver air bag module Yellow 2-pin connector. Air bag connector terminals are automatically shorted together. See Figure.
- Remove glove box. Unplug passenger air bag module Yellow 2-pin connector, accessible through glove box opening. See Figure. Connector may be attached to a finish plate. Air bag connector terminals are automatically shorted together.
- Unplug left and right seat belt pretensioner 2-pin connectors. To access pretensioner connectors, remove door scuff plates. Remove luggage compartment lid, rear quarter trim panel, and luggage compartment box. See Figure and Figure .
