ACURA (1988-04)

WARNING: Accidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury may result. Avoid area near steering wheel and instrument panel even if air bags have deployed. Dual-stage air bag modules may be present that could contain an undeployed stage. When disposing of a deployed dual-stage air bag, always treat it as a "live" module. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.

Replace After Deployment Inspect & If Damaged Replace Component (Even If Air Bag Did Not Deploy) Comments
Deployed air bag modules; Deployed side air bag modules (if equipped); SRS control unit; Front impact sensors (if equipped); Side impact sensors (if equipped-on side deployed); Deployed seat belt pretensioners (if equipped); Seat belts(1); Cable reel; Dash or impact sensors (if equipped); Seat belt anchor points; SRS control unit; SRS wiring harnesses; OPDS sensor(2); Passenger's weight sensor unit operation (if equipped)(3); If any components are damaged, they must be replaced.; DO NOT attempt SRS wiring repairs. If SRS wiring or harness connectors are faulty, replace faulty wiring harness.; After vehicle is repaired, ensure AIR BAG warning light is functioning properly.;
(1) Replace seat belts if the air bags were deployed and-or they were being worn at time of collision (check for damage at seat belt anchor points).
(2) Occupant Position Detection System.
(3) Operation must be checked after any collision or when passenger front seat components are replaced.
Acura-2

Replace After Deployment Inspect & If Damaged Replace Component (Even If Air Bag Did Not Deploy) Comments
Deployed air bag modules; SRS control unit; Seat belts(1); Instrument panel braces; Instrument panel steering column reinforcement plate; Knee bolster & mounting points; Seat belt anchor points; Cable reel; Steering column; Wiring harness; If any components are damaged, they must be replaced.; DO NOT attempt wiring harness repairs. Replace harness.;
(1) Replace seat belts if the air bags were deployed and-or they were being worn at time of collision (check for damage at seat belt anchor points).
Acura-3

Replace After Deployment Inspect & If Damaged Replace Component (Even If Air Bag Did Not Deploy) Comments
Deployed front air bag modules; Front impact sensors(1); Deployed side air bag modules(2); Deployed head impact air bag modules(2); SRS control unit; Roof trim(3); Center pillar upper trim, front grab handle, any related trim clips(2)>,> (3)>,> (4); Side impact sensors (on side deployed); Deployed seat belt pretensioners; Seat belts(5); Cable reel; Seat belt anchor points; SRS control unit; Impact senors; SRS wiring harnesses; If any components are damaged, they must be replaced.; DO NOT attempt SRS wiring repairs. If SRS wiring or harness connectors are faulty, replace faulty wiring harness.; After vehicle is repaired, ensure AIR BAG warning light is functioning properly.;
(1) Front impact sensors must be replaced if front air bags or seat belt pretensioners have deployed.
(2) On side of deployment.
(3) If head impact air bag has deployed.
(4) If head impact air bag has deployed, replace all trim clips on that side, even if they appear undamaged. Replace trim clips on these parts: front pillar trim, center pillar trim, rear pillar trim, front grab handle and sun visor.
(5) Replace seat belts if the air bags were deployed and-or they were being worn at time of collision (check for damage at seat belt anchor points).
Acura-4

Replace After Deployment Inspect & If Damaged Replace Component (Even If Air Bag Did Not Deploy) Comments
Deployed front air bag modules; Front impact sensors(1); Deployed side air bag modules(2); Deployed head impact air bag modules(2); SRS control unit; Upper Instrument panel (if passenger-side air bag module deployed); Roof trim(3); Center pillar upper trim, front grab handle, any related trim clips(2)>,> (3)>,> (4); Side impact sensors (on side deployed); Deployed seat belt pretensioners; Seat belts(5); Cable reel; Seat belt anchor points; SRS control unit; Impact senors; SRS wiring harnesses; If any components are damaged, they must be replaced.; DO NOT attempt SRS wiring repairs. If SRS wiring or harness connectors are faulty, replace faulty wiring harness.; After vehicle is repaired, ensure AIR BAG warning light is functioning properly.;
