DTC P0136: Heated Oxygen Sensor (Ho2S) No. 2 Circuit Malfunction (Esteem 1.8L)
- Inspect exhaust system for damage or leaks. Repair as necessary and retest system. If exhaust system is okay, turn ignition off and connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Start engine and go to next step.
- Operate vehicle so it reaches normal operating temperature. Race engine and check HO2S No. 2 output voltage on scan tool. If HO2S No. 2 output voltage reading is less than .25 volt or greater than .35 volt, go to step 4 . If voltage is greater than .25 volt or less than .35 volt, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect HO2S No. 2 connector. Connect voltmeter between HO2S connector terminals No. 1 (Blue wire) and No. 2 (Pink wire). Start engine. Check voltmeter while racing engine. If voltage is greater than .35 volt or less than .25 volt. Check for open or short circuit in Pink or Blue wire. Repair as necessary. If wiring or connection are okay, replace PCM. If voltage is less than .35 volt or greater than .25 volt, replace HO2S No. 2.
- Operate engine at 2000 RPM for one minute. With engine idling, check short term fuel trim value on scan tool. If value is within -20 to +20 percent, problem is intermittent. If value is not within -20 to +20 percent, go to DTC P0171: FUEL SYSTEM LEAN, OR P0172: FUEL SYSTEM RICH (ESTEEM 1.8L) test.
