DTC P0134: Heated Oxygen Sensor (Ho2S) No. 1 Circuit/No Activity Detected (Esteem 1.8L)

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM for at least one minute. Repeat racing engine and depressing accelerator pedal 5-6 times continuously to richen mixture. Remove foot from pedal to cause a lean mixture while monitoring HO2S No. 1 parameter on scan tool. If scan tool displays greater than 0.6 volt or less than 0.4 volt to greater than 0.6 volt, go to step  3 . If scan tool does not display greater than 0.6 volt or less than 0.4 volt, go to next step.
  2. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect HO2S connector. Check connector for good terminal contact. Repair as necessary. If terminal contact is okay, connect voltmeter between HO2S connector terminals No. 1 (Orange wire) and No. 2 (White wire). Start engine and check voltmeter while increasing engine speed. If voltage is less than 0.4 volt or greater than 0.6 volt, check Orange and White wires for an open or short circuit. If wiring is okay, replace PCM. If voltage is greater than 0.4 volt or less than 0.6 volt, replace HO2S.
  3. Operate engine at 2000 RPM for one minute. With engine idling, check short term fuel trim value on scan tool. If value is within -20 to +20 percent, problem is intermittent. If value is not within -20 to +20 percent, go to DTC P0171: FUEL SYSTEM LEAN, OR P0172: FUEL SYSTEM RICH  test.
