Esteem 1.8L & Grand VITARA 2.5L V6
- Warm engine up to normal operating temperature. Make sure fast idle cam and cam follower have clearance between them. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP sensor connector. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between specified terminals of TP sensor connector. See THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR RESISTANCE
table. See Figure
. If idle switch check is not within specification, go to next step.NOTE: If Tech 1 scan tool is available, the following adjustment can be made using scan tool instead of DVOM.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Reconnect TP sensor connector. Loosen TP sensor mounting screws. Using a DVOM, check voltage at ECM terminal C20-25 (Esteem 1.8L) or C51-3-12 (Grand Vitara). Turn TP sensor fully counterclockwise and then turn it clockwise slowly to locate point where DVOM voltage reading is as specified. See THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR VOLTAGE (ESTEEM 1.8L & GRAND VITARA 2.5L V6)
table. Holding TP sensor at that position, tighten screws snug. Repeat step 1
. If readings cannot be obtained as specified, replace TP sensor.THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR RESISTANCE(1)
