Diagnostic Procedure

  1. If DTC 63 occurs intermittently, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  . If DTC 63 does not occur intermittently, and DTC 36 is also present, diagnose DTC 36 first. If DTC 63 does not occur intermittently and DTC 36 is not present, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect EBCM 8-pin harness connector and motor pack 6-pin harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage of Brown wire between ground and motor pack 6-pin harness connector terminal No. 2. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is not one volt or less, repair short to voltage in Brown wire.
  3. Measure voltage of Brown/Black wire between ground and motor pack 6-pin harness connector terminal No. 1. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is not one volt or less, repair short to voltage in Brown/Black wire.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance across terminals No. 1 and 2 of motor pack. If resistance is greater than .4 ohms, replace EBCM. If resistance is not greater than .4 ohms, replace motor pack. After all diagnosis is complete, clear DTC and test drive vehicle for 3 drive cycles to verify that DTC does not reset.
