DTC P0481: A/C Cooling Fan Control Circuit Malfunction (Esteem 1.8L)

  1. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage (backprobe) between ground and PCM 35-pin harness connector "E92" terminal No. 32 (Yellow wire). Reading should be 10-14 volts when A/C switch is turned off. With coolant temperature greater than 208°F (98°C), reading should be 0-2 volts with A/C operating. If voltages are as specified, problem is intermittent. Check wiring. If wiring is okay, replace ECM. If voltages are not as specified, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove A/C condenser fan relay. Check for good connection at A/C condenser fan relay connector terminals No. 3 (Light Green wire) and No. 4 (Yellow wire). Repair as necessary. If connection is okay, measure resistance between relay terminals No. 3 and 4. If 70-110 ohms are present, check Light Green or Yellow wires for an open or short circuit. If wires and connections are okay, replace PCM. If 70-110 ohms are not present, replace PCM.
