Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECT sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage at ECT sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 (Orange/Black wire). If 4.5-5.5 volts exists, go to next step. If 4.5-5.5 volts does not exist, check Orange/Black wire for short to ground. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. If wire is okay, replace PCM. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Retest system.
  2. Test ECT sensor. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace ECT sensor if resistance is not as specified. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. If ECT sensor tests okay, check for poor connection to ECT sensor. If connection is okay, replace PCM. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Retest system.
