Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECT sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage at ECT sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 (Orange/Black wire). If 4.5-5.5 volts exists, go to next step. If 4.5-5.5 volts does not exist, check Orange/Black wire for short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If wire is okay, replace PCM. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Retest system.
  2. Test ECT sensor. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article. Replace ECT sensor if resistance is not as specified. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. If ECT sensor tests okay, check for poor connection to ECT sensor. If connection is okay, replace PCM. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Retest system.
