Esteem, Swift & Vitara 1.6L

Remove secondary coil wires. Disconnect harness connector from ignition coil. Using DVOM, measure secondary coil resistance. See Fig 1 . Replace coil if resistance is not as specified. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE table.

On Swift, use DVOM to check for continuity in igniter circuit by connecting positive lead to terminal No. 3, and negative lead to terminal No. 1 of ignition coil. See Fig 1 . Continuity should not be present. Using a 1.5-volt battery, connect positive side to terminal No. 2, and negative side to terminal No. 3. DVOM should indicate continuity. Replace coil if continuity is not as specified.
