DTC Confirmation Test (P0440)

  1. Ensure intake air temperature is 6.8-158°F (-14-70°C), vehicle is at an altitude of 9150 feet or below, and barometric pressure is 74 kPa or more. Ensure DTCs P0101, P0102, P0103, P0111, P0112, P0113, P0116, P0117, P0118, P0131, P0132, P0133, P0134, P0135, P0136, P0141, P0335, P0461, P0463, P0500, P1450 and P1451 are not set. Turn ignition off, connect scan tool and turn ignition on. Clear DTCs. See MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT (MIL) RESET PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Drive vehicle at speeds of 25 MPH or more with throttle steady for 15 minutes.
  2. Stop vehicle. Check for DTCs P0440. See RETRIEVING DTCS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If DTCs are not set, check completion status of evaporative system monitoring test in READINESS TESTS mode. If testing has not been completed, drive vehicle at speeds of 25 MPH or more with throttle steady for 15 minutes. Stop vehicle. Check for DTCs P0440.
