Chart D: SDM Cannot Communicate Through Serial Data Circuit
WARNING:
To avoid air bag deployment and injury when trouble shooting system, only use test equipment specified in diagnostic charts. Under no circumstances should battery powered test equipment or test light be used. Carefully follow all instructions.
NOTE:
Following step references refer to test step numbers on diagnostic chart. See Fig 1

- 1) An improper connection to DLC will prevent communications from being established.
- 2) This test checks for open in SERIAL DATA circuit.
- 3) This test checks if problem is in SDM or other part.
- 4) This test checks for short to ground in SERIAL DATA circuit.
- 5) This test checks for short to B+ or other power circuit in SERIAL DATA circuit.
- 4) This test checks if problem caused by short in ABS control module. When integrity of SERIAL DATA circuit is confirmed and SDM cannot communicate, SDM must be malfunctioning.
