DTC P0480: Radiator Cooling Fan Control System Malfunction

  1. Check for proper thermostat operation. Ensure coolant does not flow through radiator when engine is cold (stuck-open thermostat). Repair as necessary. If thermostat is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, backprobe PCM 26-pin harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 20 (Blue wire). If voltage is 10-14 volts at 199°F (92.5°C), check for an intermittent problem. See TESTS W/O CODES article. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
  3. Remove radiator fan control relay. See Figure . Measure voltage between terminals No. 3 and 4. If resistance is not 79-95 ohms, replace relay. If resistance is 79-95 ohms, inspect Black/White wire between radiator fan control relay and IG fuse, and Blue wire between relay and PCM. Repair as needed. If both circuits are okay, replace PCM.
