DTC P0500: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) MALFUNCTIOM (A/T)

  1. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect VSS harness connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between VSS component terminals. Resistance should be 100-300 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and each component terminal. Resistance should be 1 megohm or greater. If resistances are as specified, go to next step. If resistances are not as specified, replace VSS.
  2. Remove VSS and visually inspect sensor and countershaft gear for contamination and/or damage. Repair as needed. If no damage is present, inspect both circuits between VSS and PCM for open or short. Repair as needed. If both circuits are okay, replace PCM.
