DTC P0720: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PCM 22-pin harness connector. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between PCM 22-pin harness connector terminals No. 2 (Purple wire) and No. 13 (Light Green wire). See Figure. If resistance is 100-300 ohms, go to step 3. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
- Disconnect VSS harness connector at transaxle. Using a DVOM, measure resistance between VSS terminals (sensor side). If resistance is 100-300 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace VSS.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance between PCM 22-pin harness connector terminal No. 13 (Light Green wire) and VSS harness connector terminal No. 1 (Light Green wire). See Figure. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair Light Green wire for an open or high resistance.
- Using a DVOM, measure resistance between PCM 22-pin harness connector terminal No. 2 (Purple wire) and VSS harness connector terminal No. 2 (Purple wire). See Figure. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair Purple wire for an open or high resistance.
- Reconnect all harness connectors. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Road test vehicle and recheck for DTC P0720. If DTC resets, replace PCM. If DTC does not reset, malfunction can not be duplicated at this time.
