Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select F0: DATA LIST mode. While monitoring brake switch on scan tool, apply light pressure on brake pedal. If scan tool indicates brake switch "ON" within one inch (25 mm) of pedal travel, system is currently functioning correctly. See INTERMITTENT OR POOR CONNECTIONS  . If scan tool does not indicate brake switch "ON" within one inch (25 mm) of pedal travel, go to next step.
  2. With brake pedal pressure still applied, inspect rear brake lights. If brake lights are illuminated, go to next step. If brake lights are not illuminated, go to step  4 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect 32-pin EBCM harness connector. Turn ignition switch on. With firm pressure on brake pedal, measure voltage between ground and 32-pin EBCM harness connector terminal No. 3 (Green/White wire). If voltage is 10 volts or greater, check for poor terminal contact of Green/White wire at 32-pin EBCM harness connector terminal No. 3. If terminal and connector are okay, replace EBCM. If voltage is not 10 volts or greater, repair Green/White wire for an open or short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  4. Measure voltage between ground and Green wire at brake switch. If voltage is 10 volts or greater, go to next step. If voltage is not 10 volts or greater, repair open or short to ground in power feed circuit (Green wire) between brake switch and fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .Replace STOP fuse if necessary.
  5. With firm pressure on brake pedal, measure voltage between ground and Green/White wire at brake switch. If voltage is 10 volts or greater, repair open Green/White wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is not 10 volts or greater, adjust or replace brake switch. See appropriate DISC & DRUM article.
