Ignition Switch & Column Lock: Removal

Ensure front wheels are pointed straight ahead. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove steering wheel, driver's air bag, contact coil and combination switch assembly. See STEERING WHEEL and CONTACT COIL & COMBINATION SWITCH . Remove steering column. See STEERING COLUMN .
Using a hammer and drift punch, loosen shear bolts from column lock assembly. DO NOT damage aluminum part of steering lock body with drift punch. Turn ignition switch to ACC or ON position. Remove column lock assembly from steering column. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 .
