BRAKELIGHT Switch Circuit Check

  1. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect Cruise Control Electronic Control Unit (CC ECU) harness connector. Turn ignition on. Depress brake pedal. Using voltmeter, check voltage between ground and CC ECU harness connector terminal No. 2 (Blue/Yellow wire on Esteem; Green/White wire on Sidekick 1.8L and X90). See Fig 1 . With brake pedal depressed, voltage should be 10-14 volts.
  2. Release brake pedal. Check voltage between ground and CC ECU harness connector terminal No. 6 (Green/Red wire on Esteem; Yellow/Green wire on Sidekick 1.8L and X90). See Fig 1 . With brake pedal released, voltage should be 10-14 volts.
  3. If voltage is not as specified, check fuses, wiring and harness connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair fuses, wiring or harness connectors as necessary.
  4. If fuses, wiring and harness connectors are okay, check brakelight switch. See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH TESTS  under COMPONENT TESTS.
