Cruise Main Switch, Coast/Set, Resume/ACCEL & Cancel Switch Circuit Check

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Cruise Control Electronic Control Unit (CC ECU) harness connector. Check resistance between CC ECU harness connector terminals No. 8 (Light Green/Red wire on Esteem; Light Green wire on Sidekick 1.8L and X90) and No. 5 (Blue wire on Esteem; Black/Blue or Black/Orange wire on Sidekick 1.8L and X90). See Figure .
  2. With all switches off, resistance should be infinite. With COAST/SET switch on, resistance should be 200-240 ohms. With RESUME/ACCEL switch on, resistance should be 820-1000 ohms. With CANCEL switch on, resistance should be about zero ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, go to step 4).
  3. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between CC ECU harness connector terminal No. 8 (Light Green/Red wire; Light Green wire on Sidekick 1.8L and X90) and ground. With cruise control main switch off, voltage should be about zero. With cruise control main switch on, voltage should be 10-14 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, check cruise control main switch. See CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH TESTS  under COMPONENT TESTS.
  4. Check COAST/SET, RESUME/ACCEL and CANCEL switch operation. See COAST/SET  , RESUME/ACCEL & CANCEL SWITCH ASSEMBLY under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace as necessary. If switch is okay, check for open or short in Light Green/Red, Blue, Black/Blue, Light Green or Black/Orange wire between multifunction switch and CC ECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair as necessary.
