DTC 47: Left Front Motor Free Spins: Description

DTC is set if feedback current is less than command current for a specified period.

NOTE: If DTC 56 is also present, diagnose and repair first before proceeding with DTC 47.
  1. Turn ignition on. Pump brake pedal. Using scan tool, select ABS TESTS. Using manual control, select left front motor apply. Monitor commanded current and feedback current. Apply motor. If feedback current and commanded current are 10 amps, go to step 3). If feedback current and commanded current are not 10 amps, go to next step.
  2. If feedback current or commanded current are 0 amps, replace EBCM. If feedback current or commanded current are not 0 amps, go to step 4).
  3. Apply firm pressure on brake pedal. Select left front motor release function and release motor. Monitor commanded current and feedback current. If brake pedal and current are not as specified, go to step 2). If brake pedal falls and feedback current and commanded current are 6 amps, maintain firm pedal pressure and go to next step.
  4. Select left front motor apply function. Apply motor. If brakes pedal does not rise, go to next step. If brake pedal rises, system is currently functioning correctly, seDIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  5. Using scan tool, select ABS tests. Perform gear tension relief function. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove ABS actuator unit. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Remove gear cover. Inspect gears on motor pack. If any gear is stripped or damaged, replace motor pack. If gears are okay, go to next step.
  6. Inspect large gears on hydraulic unit. If any gear is stripped or damaged, replace hydraulic unit. If gears are okay, go to next step.
  7. Reconnect all connectors. Securely position hydraulic modulator assembly with cover removed so gear set can be observed. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select manual control function. Select left front motor apply. Apply motor while observing gear set. Select left front motor release function. Release motor. Select left front motor apply. Apply motor. If gear set moves in both directions for at least one revolution, go to next step. If gear set does not operate as specified, replace motor pack.
  8. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect EBCM and motor pack harness connectors. Measure resistance of Light Green wire between terminal No. 6 on ABS actuator motor pack harness connector and terminal No. 2 on EBCM 8-pin harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair high resistance in Light Green wire.
  9. Measure resistance of Light Green/Black wire between terminal No. 5 on ABS actuator motor pack harness connector and terminal No. 1 on EBCM 8-pin harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair high resistance in Light Green/Black wire.
  10. Measure resistance between terminals No. 5 and 6 on ABS actuator motor pack component connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace hydraulic modulator If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace motor pack.
