DTC 18: Abs Enable Relay Coil Circuit Shorted To Battery: Description

Test monitors availability of power to motors and solenoids.

  1. Turn ignition on. Command ABS enable relay on, using scan tool relay test function. If scan tool indicates that ABS enable relay is on and battery voltage is greater than 10 volts, system is currently functioning correctly. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If scan tool does not indicate that ABS enable relay is on and battery voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove ABS enable relay from underhood relay block. Disconnect EBCM harness connectors. Turn ignition switch on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black/Blue wire) on ABS enable relay connector. If voltage is 2 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is greater than 2 volts, repair Black/Blue wire for short to voltage.
  3. Measure resistance between terminals No. 1 and 4 on ABS enable relay. If resistance is less than 40 ohms, replace ABS enable relay. If resistance is 40 ohms or more, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Inspect EBCM harness connectors. Ensure connectors are clean and tight. Reconnect EBCM connectors and install ABS enable relay. Turn ignition on. If DTC 18 resets, replace EBCM. If DTC 18 does not reset, system is currently functioning correctly. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
