DTC 15: Abs Enable Relay Circuit Shorted To Battery Or Always Closed: Description

Test determines if ABS enable relay is energized at incorrect time, not allowing relay to remove power from ABS. Malfunction must be present for 3 consecutive drive cycles before DTC is set.

NOTE: If DTCs 63, 66, 77 or 81 are also present, diagnose and repair those DTCs first before proceeding with DTC 15.
  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, command ABS enable relay off using relay test function. If scan tool indicates that ABS enable relay is off and battery voltage is less than 5 volts, system is currently functioning correctly. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If scan tool does not indicate that ABS enable relay is off and battery voltage is less than 5 volts, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect EBCM harness connectors. Turn ignition switch on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 7 (White wire) on EBCM 8-pin harness connector. If voltage is 2 volts or less, go to step 5). If voltage is greater than 2 volts, go to next step.
  3. Measure voltage between battery voltage and terminal No. 11 (Black/Blue wire) on EBCM 24-pin harness connector. If voltage is 2 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is greater than 2 volts, repair Black/Blue wire for short to ground.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove ABS enable relay from underhood relay block. Disconnect left front and right front solenoid connectors located on back of ABS actuator unit. Turn ignition switch on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 7 (White wire) on EBCM 8-pin harness connector. If voltage is 2 volts or less, replace ABS enable relay. If voltage is greater than 2 volts, repair White wire for short to voltage.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Reconnect EBCM harness connectors. Turn ignition switch on. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES . Command ABS enable relay off, using scan tool relay test function. If scan tool indicates that ABS enable relay is off and battery voltage is less than 2 volts, system is currently functioning correctly. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If scan tool does not indicate that ABS enable relay is off and battery voltage is less than 2 volts, replace EBCM.
