Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove steering column. See STEERING COLUMN.
  2. Using hammer and center punch, remove ignition lock mounting bolts. Turn ignition key switch to ON or ACC position and remove ignition lock.
  3. To install, turn ignition switch to ON or ACC position. Position ignition lock on steering column tube. Turn ignition to LOCK position and remove key. Ensure steering shaft is locked. Tighten NEW shear bolts until heads break off. Ensure ignition lock operates properly and steering shaft operates smoothly. Install steering column. See STEERING COLUMN. Connect negative battery cable. Activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
