Test Description
Diagnosing DTCs in correct order is important. Failure to diagnose DTCs in order specified may result in extended diagnostic time, incorrect diagnosis and incorrect part replacement.
NOTE:
Following step references refer to test step numbers on diagnostic chart. See Fig 1
. For circuit number and wire color identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- An improper connection to DLC will prevent communications from being established.
- This test checks for open in SERIAL DATA circuit.
- This test checks if abnormality is in SDM or any other part. Once integrity of SERIAL DATA circuit has been confirmed and ABS control module can communicate, SDM must be malfunctioning.
- This test checks for short to ground in SERIAL DATA circuit.
- This test checks for short to B+ or other power circuit in SERIAL DATA circuit.
- This test checks if malfunction caused buy short in ABS control module. With ABS control module disconnected from SERIAL DATA circuit, if SDM and scan tool can communicate, ABS control module may be malfunctioning. When integrity of SERIAL DATA circuit has been confirmed and SDM cannot communicate, SDM must be malfunctioning.
